Great Canadian Ultimate Game E-mail

On July 17, 2010 ultimate players from coast-to-coast will compete in the largest ultimate game ever held in Canada: the Great Canadian Ultimate Game. Come participate in the action, learn how to play frisbee and meet national and world level ultimate frisbee players.

When: Saturday July 17, 2010
Time: 8-9pm
Location: North side of Optimist Athletic Park (5020 - 26 Avenue SW) - look for frisbees.

In addition to the Great Canadian Ultimate Game, to further celebrate 'Ultimate Day' in Canada, Calgary's Masters teams FigJam and Epic are going to be playing their seeding match for CUC2010 at 6:30pm at the same location, north side of Optimist Park.

There will be treats available for donation to the Boys & Girls clubs of Canada and Right to Play.

Players Needed for CUC2010 E-mail

The Canadian Ultimate Championships is right around the corner and there are still opportunities for you to be a part of the excitement. There are currently spots available on Calgary teams for the Open, Women and Masters divisons. These teams are looking for players that would like to travel to Sherbrooke, QC for CUC2010. Save the dates: August 12-15, 2010

Ladies First...
wrflowerWild Rose is headed to CUC 2010 and we're looking for women to join us on the field! Interested players will ideally have at least a year's experience and be willing to work hard and learn new strategies of competitive play. As we get closer to the tournament, we would expect attendance at a minimum number of practices (TBD) for the month of July and the first part of August. Open
SirLoin Ultimate is back again this year and we are recruiting ALL men interested in representing Alberta in the open division at CUC2010. If you are asirloindarkweb guy with a few years of experience looking to play competitive men's ultimate, but can't commit more than one night a week to practices, we want you!

Canada Represents At World Clubs 2010 in Prague E-mail

348630503_pZbYT-L-1There are just a few weeks to go before a global community of ultimate players descends on Prague, Czech Republic from July 3 - 10 for the World Ultimate Club Championships (WUCC) 2010. This year, there will be a total of 136 teams at WUCC 2010. To give you a better idea of how collossal that is, our local Ho-Down tournament (one of the larger ones in western Canada) typically hosts around 36 teams. Looking at WUCC a bit closer, those 136 teams break down into 48 teams in the Open division, 32 in the Womens division, 40 in Mixed division and 16 in the Masters division.

Canadian Contingent
Canadian teams will be representing our ultimate scene from coast to coast. Their tickets to the event were earned by finishing in top spots at last year's Canadian Ultimate Championships in Winnipeg, MB. Those teams include:

  • Lotus Canada (Ontario - Womens)

Calgary Represents
Now comes the shout-out to all the local players who are making the trek overseas to play among the world's best. The Invictus (Open) and Figjam (Masters) teams are Calgary-based and are rounding out their local core with a few pickups from Vancouver, Ontario and Halifax. Also, some Calgary women have picked up on Zephyr (Womens) as well as Chaos (Mixed). Congrats to all the Calgary competitive players who've earned a berth to this championship -- we'll be cheering you on from home!

will be on the scene and each day during the event, UV will bring a video Daily Summary from previous day, a Clip of the Day, and coverage from all divisions. Pre-Season News from Calgary's Womens and Masters teams!

Spring is upon us, and that means Calgary's competitive touring teams are starting to strategize a gameplan for the 2010 season. If you are interested in taking your skills to the next level and travelling to tournaments for more than just the free beer, you should definitely check out what these teams have to offer.
